VAT in Ghana from 1 January 2026
The Value Added Tax Act, 2025 (Act 1151) changed how VAT is charged from 1 January 2026. VAT is 15%, and the NHIL (2.5%) and GETFund levy (2.5%) are now charged on the same value as VAT, not added before it. That gives a total of 20% on the value of a supply. The COVID-19 Health Recovery Levy was abolished.
- To add VAT to a price, multiply by 1.20.
- To find the VAT inside a VAT-inclusive price, divide the price by 1.20 to get the value before VAT; the difference is VAT and levies.
Businesses that supply taxable goods with a turnover above GH₵750,000 a year must register for VAT. Service providers must register whatever their turnover.
The 3% VAT flat rate scheme ended on 31 December 2025. What it means for small businesses.
