Ghana PAYE tax bands

PAYE (Pay As You Earn) is income tax your employer deducts from your salary each month and pays to the Ghana Revenue Authority. These are the monthly bands for resident individuals in force from 1 September 2026:

Chargeable income per monthRate
First GH₵588.00 0%
Next GH₵80.00 5%
Next GH₵100.00 10%
Next GH₵2,900.00 17.5%
Next GH₵16,000.00 25%
Next GH₵30,332.00 30%
Above GH₵50,000.00 35%

How PAYE is calculated

  1. Add your basic salary and taxable allowances to get gross pay.
  2. Take off your SSNIT contribution (5.5% of basic salary, up to the monthly cap) and any tier 3 or provident fund contribution, up to 16.5% of basic salary.
  3. Take off any personal reliefs the GRA has granted you. What is left is your chargeable income.
  4. Tax the chargeable income band by band, using the table above.

Non-resident employees pay a flat 25% with no tax-free band. The bands changed on 1 September 2026; choose "Tax bands" in the calculator to work out pay for earlier months.
