About Ghana's public holidays
Public holidays are set by the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act. The 2025 amendment restored Republic Day (1 July) as a holiday, moved Founders' Day back to 21 September, Kwame Nkrumah's birthday, and made Shaqq Day, the day after Eid al-Fitr, a public holiday. Farmers' Day is the first Friday in December.
When a holiday falls on a weekend, or midweek, the Government may declare another day off, usually the following Monday or the nearest Friday. Those days are listed as "day off" once announced. Commemorative days such as African Union Day are marked but are working days.
